The Cement Division operates from Kaloleni and has an installed capacity of 120,000 tones per annum of clinker manufacturing 360,000 tonnes per annum of cement grinding capacity for both OPC and PPC grade of cement. The company services the building industry through extensive distribution system throughout the country.

The company is the first cement manufacturing company in Kenya to receive ISO 9000:2001 certification for quality for its cement and lime plant in Kaloleni.

Rhino cement is the leading brand of Athi River Mining Ltd. Production of Rhino cement started in 1996. It is manufactured at the Kaloleni factory in Mombasa to the highest quality standards, European Norms (EN. 197) set and required by the building and construction industry. The Rhino cement meets the international quality standards and cost benchmarks.
Both OPC and PPC cement are made at the plant with a capacity of 360, 000 tons per annum. Continuous research is always being done to make it even better. Thus the building and construction industry is assured of the supply of very high quality Rhino cement for their commercial and residential buildings as well as roads’ construction. Rhino cement has been tested and certified by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KBS). It is the first cement brand in Kenya to receive an ISO 9001: 2000 certificate in 2005; having met all the required standards as set forth by the awarding body, Bureau Viritas Quality International (BVQI). The cement plant at Kaloleni is a state of the art plant designed by Krupp Polysius.  With an energy efficient, 5 stage pre-heater dry process technology.  The process is highly automated to ensure maximum operational availability of the plant, and consistency in product quality.  At Kaloleni, the high purity limestone and other raw materials further enable the plant to produce cement to the highest quality. Rhino Cement is manufactured to Kenya Bureau of Standards Specifications (KBS), as well as to EN Standards.  The cement has been certified for the Diamond Mark of Quality by KBS.  The Kaloleni cement plant is also ISO 9000:2001 certified for quality as well as ISO 14001 – 2004 for Environment Management Systems. Rhino Cement has special attributes; It sets faster & thus reduces the amount of time taken in one project and also it has high compressive strength; ability to support your structure; thus you can be assured of strong structures. Distribution and Sales  Rhino cement is distributed to all parts of Kenya with distributors in all major towns namely; Mombasa, Nairobi, Naivasha, Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega, Eldoret, Kitale and Nyahururu. Also major contractors buy directly from Athi River Mining for their construction projects – roads and buildings.
